Ice Cream Truck and Beach Day

New blog update! yay!

A few weeks ago the boys really wanted to get ice cream from the ice cream truck, I gave Ronin $7, but he lost the five-dollar bill before he even left the yard, so when he went to pay, he couldn't.  Which resulted in several tears and massive disappointment.  We found the lost bill in the front yard, but it was too late, the ice cream truck was gone.  So the next day when they heard the enticing music, which meant over-priced ice cream is on it's way, I gave Ronin the ice cream money and he promised not to lose it.   I figured they should experience buying food from a sketchy van at least once in their childhood.  They were so happy to be slurping on Sponge Bob and Spiderman's sticky face - it was like they killed their own meal and dragged it back to camp or something, they were very proud of their victory.   Unfortunately they keep asking to do it again and again, like a drug, they just keep looking for their next fix... I haven't let them buy it since, but now I'm afraid it was a gateway drug to something far worse, what if they start chasing taco-trucks?  or "Free Candy" vans?  :/

Delicious Victory!

Ronin's "Green Ninja" Halloween costume...

One night I decided to make something with a butternut squash from my Paleo recipes.  Quinn was so excited that we were going to eat it that he brought it to his seat and tried to bite into it, when he couldn't he decided to lick it instead.  Weirdo.  We made a shepherds pie kind of meal and it was really good.  I should probably plant some of those next year.

Ronin crawled into bed with me one morning and brought his sleep mask.

Last weekend I took the boys, Alesha and Madison to Long Beach for the day.  The weather was so perfect that day!  I think this was the first time I've been there where it's been warm and not windy or overcast.  We made sand castles and played in the water.  Quinn is not a fan of the waves, he came running back to me when he got close.  Ronin and Alesha collected dead crab parts to make "Castle Crab".  Madison is a hard working little castle architect. Her castle was crab-corpse-free.

This is Alesha and Madison running after Quinn - the waves scared him.

Running in a big ocean puddle

This is what they were doing on the car ride home.

Quinn kept telling me, as I was putting him to bed, "I had fun at the ocean beach momma!  With Ronin and you and Alesha and Madison."  aw :)  and he will forget all about it in a few weeks...  Ronin said he had fun singing at the top of our lungs with the car windows open on the way home.  :)

When we came home my gargabe disposal was magically replaced with a much better one... That was a pretty amazing treat.  And yes, I might be spoiled.  ;)

One night we broke out some face paint and Alesha made Quinn a puppy.

What else is going on?  Ronin went to his first Cub Scout meeting.  He's going to be a Tiger Scout.  I accidentally volunteered to be one of the "den" leaders... but this was before I realized it's a weekly commitment...  Ronin is very excited to learn how to do things, but also very disappointed to learn there are buttons on his uniform. ha ha!

So far in first grade Ronin has weekly spelling tests.  I have yet to see how he's doing on them, but we practice every night and he writes them in the morning before school.  I told him if he gets ALL five right I'll give him $5.  So he's trying a little harder since he wants money to blow.

Quinn likes the song "All About That Bass".  Here's the song/video (wait for the ad to go away): Quinns New Favorite Song   He likes to tell me he's bringing booty back. haha

Ronin is spending a lot of time with his friends after school, so my door is a revolving one with kids always in and out.  I can't seem to get rid of all the flys they let in, Kiera likes to catch and eat them (the fly's not the kids).  Ronin wants to get a "best friends" necklace to share with Bella, how sweet is that?!  When Bella goes home at the end of the night both Ronin and Quinn cry sometimes.  Maybe they need a puppy...   haha

I think I talked Quinn into being MAX from "Where the Wild Things Are" for Halloween.  He didn't like my idea of him being Davy Crockett, and he has practically memorized the book... I just hope it's not too hard to make.   Here's Quinn reciting some of Where the Wild Things Are:  Quinn reading with me

I'm so much happier with the boys home during the week.  Things have calmed down, we are getting into our routine again, everything is good.  :)

Nana had back surgery and is back in the hospital this week-- feel better soon Mom!!

That's all for now... I think...  I know I'm forgetting something entertaining the kids did or said...

Lots of love,

Civil War and BBQ

Long 3-day weekends are the best!  Robert, Damen, Madison and I went to a Civil War reenactment at Fort Stevens on Saturday.  It was actually pretty cool.  I'm not saying that I'm ever going to don a 19th century gown or volunteer to forgo my kindle and iPhone for a whole weekend... but it was pretty entertaining to observe.   They reenacted a battle with canons and guns and swords and horses - it was pretty slow moving... but in the end the North still won ;)

The confederate camp

Madison said "Look there's a door!" and down she went...

Waiting for something to happen in the battlefield

I mentioned how cute Quinn would be in a coon-skin hat... and on the way back from the car with Damon - Robert brought back a coon-skin hat for Quinny and a confederate hat - he said he felt like representing the underdog.  haha
Hats!

I picked the boys up Sunday evening, I missed them so much!  It felt like I hadn't seen them in forever!

Quinn calls it his "kitty hat"

Quinn played me some music

A rare photo of Ronin - since he's usually playing with his neighbor friends!

Quinn brought his doctor kit out and played doctor on me.

He pinky-swore that he'd buy me a giant house when he becomes a doctor.  Although at first he told me "no" when I asked if he'd take care of me when I'm old.

Monday was a holiday and some of my friends and I decided to have a BBQ at my house.  It was the perfect day for it and although I might have over-cooked the burgers, it was nice being happy outside with my boys and friends, there's not enough of those moments!  The boys ran around like wild Tarzan children or something, but they were fed, playing and happy that Mom wasn't checking on them every second. I'm sure I'll find evidence of mischief sooner or later... haha

Quinn and I were looking at the clouds together when my friend Kim took our pictures.  They turned out really cute!

School starts tomorrow!  I'm happy to have the boys back during the week...  the summer was too long!  Bring on the falling leaves, warm soups, rainy weather and jack-o-lanterns!  My favorite time of the year!

The link below is soooo funny- it's two guys reenacting their son's story about a salesman.  The boys and I watched it about 10 times laughing every time.  Kim and I wanted to do something like it but then we realized we'd probably get the timing all wrong and it wouldn't turn out as cool...

Shopping and Portland to Coast

A couple weeks ago we did some school shopping, and HAD to find some sleeping-eye-masks for some reason... luckily they had them at the dollar store.  Ronin convinced me he'd sleep better with one.  So we all got one, mine came in handy at Portland to Coast for sleeping with headlights constantly shining in our van.

Portland to coast...

Last weekend was my third and probably my last Portland to Coast relay.  In my van I had my friend Brandee, my coworker/friend Julie, Brandee’s coworker/friend Mechell, an old soccer friend Crystal, her friend Sarah, and me.    Julie had the first leg which was a back road with kind of a hill-billy feel…  at one point there was a man sitting by the road with no shirt on and a goat minature horse by his side.  The horse had purple hearts painted on it.  The man ran across the road to give Julie some kind of homemade pinecone flowers.  She told us by hill-billy law they are now engaged.  Haha

My first leg was at midnight in the dark on some back roads by the woods… Luckily it was only 4.2 miles and Brandee volunteered to walk it with me. We blasted music and walked as fast as we could while discussing the “what-ifs” of walking in the dark.  Like what if we get sprayed by a skunk – would we still be allowed in the van?  I pointed out that we can’t just abandon people because they stink.  Another “what-if” was "what-if" you were a crazy psychopath and hid in the woods to pick off Hood to Coast runners and walkers?  It would be the perfect place!

We chatted with lots of people, made fun of a few, were made fun of by alot more people, practiced twerking...  At some point I got to explain how the Human Centipede works, and how Sharknado's are possible.

Choose wisely... The line to the left is for food.  The line to the right is for the port-o-potty.  You better believe I got in the food line!

Mechell is not shy...

Seriously- the outhouses were a big deal!  These were CLEAN and had TOILET PAPER!

Julie, Brandee, Mechell and me!

My last leg was 7.15 miles uphill on a gravel road...  which mostly sucked since it was in the middle of the day and it was sooo dusty... I was so happy to see the end of that leg.

The Finish Line!  I hate crowds... there was way too many people there... I couldn't even see the ocean, the fog was too thick.

Our team...

It was a fun time with a good group of girls, but I was sooooo ready to come home and see my boys and sleep and take a shower and not walk...  We are looking at doing a one-day relay next year as a group instead, I found a Mt. Raineer one that's all down-hill jogging...  that's my kind of relay :)
