Daycare and Post-poned Surgery

The boys had their first week of daycare last week!   Ronin loves it and over the weekend he asked if he could go to school, we had to explain that we don't go to school on the weekends.   Quinny on the other hand kind of hates it.  The first day he had no trouble but the second day was the toughest and then he got a nasty cold on Thursday so I picked him up early and he got a fever on Friday so I picked him up again early that day...  Poor guy has been sick all weekend.  He was doing better this morning but now he has a cough.  I emailed his eye doctor/surgeon and she would like to postpone surgery until he's feeling better and hasn't had a fever for a while.  So April 24th is our next surgery date!  I hope we can keep him germ-free around then so we can get it done!

Ronin's caterpillars are really taking off-- they are now in their little cocoons waiting to turn into butterfly's.  He's so excited about this amazing metamorphasis, and I'm utterly grossed out. haha  I thought they would be cute fuzzy little creatures, but they are vile looking worm things... and their cocoons look like something out of a horror movie...   I really hope that butterflies emerge and not some evil parasite from another planet who's only mission is to take over humans by crawling into the brains while they sleep...    But I'm sure they are just butterflies...  haha

They went from this...

To these fat gross things....

And now they look like this...  they are just waiting there...

So anyway...  not much else has happened in the last two weekends.  We worked a little more on the back yard...  bought and watched the Hobbit - which was really good!  Rented Rise of the Guardians, Ronin and I really liked that movie... I might have to buy it :)

Quinn must have pushed some Cheeto's behind the couch one day, because I found them, nicely preserved in my tuperware so they weren't stale.  He kept asking for them so I just put them on the floor for him to eat --  he was pretty happy then.

The "X" on the floor behind him is NOT, in fact, from the movie Poltergeist where we can slide from one end of the kitchen to the other with the help of supernatural spirits, it's actually Ronin's time-out spot.  Less exciting than the poltergeist idea though.

I don't have any pictures of Ronin this time around... just of his vile little creatures he's been harboring...  I hope they hatch soon so I can let them go. yuck, yuck, yuck.

Yesterday we are talking about something and Ronin said he's glad he knows what a "heart attack" is now because he used to think it was when two people loved each other and then attacked and killed each other.  haha!   He's also super excited about Easter for some reason... he knows I bought them gifts for Easter so he started searching through the house for them, luckily they were in my car so I just brought them to work to keep until Friday.   He's been picking up on some other language, not by us, but maybe television when daddy's watching his gold rush shows, but the other day he was in the pool and he instructed daddy that he was going to dive down to get the key but if he doesn't come back up to "get me the hell out of there!"   hahahaha!  I'm not sure what Rory said to that, but when he was retelling it I was laughing too hard to hear the rest of his story.

Quinn can say "banana" without a problem now, and sometimes he likes to just yell "BANANA!" at the top of his lungs, at home, at the store, in bed... I think he's pretty proud of himself.  He's also been blowing kisses and saying bye as he waves.  One morning as I was gettin ready for work I heard him get up too and he was in there crying "Why?? why?? WHY??"  I don't know that he knows what that means, but I had to go in and get him up with me too. :)

Easter, Rory's birthday and a visit from Nana are all coming up!  And then it will practically be summer! yay!

Take care,
C

Caterpillars and Timeouts

This weekend was much more lazy than that last. phew!  We got our cups back from the ceramics place where we painted them on Ronin's birthday-- they look pretty cool!

My mug and Ronin's cup

We got to go swimming on Saturday and planted apple trees, calla lillies and dahlias in some big pots.  Ronin's caterpillars came in the mail on Friday for his butterfly garden he got for his birthday.  We are trying to observe and keep a journal of them every couple of days... so far he says they look like centepedes...

24 hours after they arrived - there are 5 of them in there somewhere

Quinn still goes to sit in Ronin's lap when Ronin has to sit in timeout.  I don't know if he does it because he feels bad for his big brother, or because it's the only time Ronin is sitting still and not trying to push him away from something he's doing, but it's still so cute.  He even brings a blanket over sometimes to cuddle.
Timeout with big brother

Quinny now points to our nose and screams "NO!" instead of "nose" - which at first I thought he was telling me very sternly "NO!" but he just hasn't got the "S" in nose yet.   Sometimes he'll cover his eyes and say "eyes" too.   But he's very eager to scream "NO" and stab you in the nose (or miss your nose and poke your eye).

Quinn NOT sitting in the tub

This is Cheyla's last week of babysitting the boys before she's gone for 2 months and I have to start taking the boys to daycare each morning again.  Ronin is super excited, I hope Quinn does well with the change... he really loves people so I think he'll do fine at first.  At least the house will stay cleaner while we are at work!

Oh- and I did not get the new job at my work :(  A coworker with a little more time in at the PUD got it over me, but both of my bosses had really nice things to say about me and that I did great in the interview and will excede here.  It's too bad, but I'm a little relieved since it would have been more responsibilty, and I like the flexibility I have right now with my family/work schedule, so my time will come eventually :)

Nothing else exciting is going on - we are waiting for the weather to warm up so we can resume our summer activities with the boys and go camping.  I even found a campground called "Camp Dakota" that rents out tee-pee's to sleep in and has zip lines and gold panning for the kids. Hoping to go there this summer!

That's about all!
Lots of love,

Party like a 5 year old...

Whew!  We made it through Ronin's 5th birthday -- 3 days worth of celebrating!  He had a great time at each event and he even told me "Thank you mommy, I'm so lucky to have you guys as my parents"  :)  aw!

On Thursday we had some special time with just Ronin while Quinn stayed home with Cheyla.  We went bowling and played arcade games at Crossley Lanes... We painted our own ceramic cups at Earth, Fire and Glaze (which should be ready on Thursday of this week!).  We even got to go to lunch with Grandma Jan at Shari's where our waitress sang Happy Birthday to him and gave him a free piece of pie :)

A clip of him bowling...

and the bowling dance...

On Saturday we got to meet up with grandparents and uncles/aunts at Rockies Pizza!  YUM and so worth the drive :)

Daddy and birthday boy!

On SUNDAY he had his kids-party, which was, to say the least, exhausting.  It was a success though and the kids all had fun!  We started by sucking a hard-boiled egg inside a glass bottle, then the kids made play-doh volcano's over a glass baby food jar so we could fill it with volcanic ash (baking soda) and lava (orange colored vinegar)... lastly we made lava lamps by filling water bottles with colored water, vegetable oil and dropping alka-seltzer tablets in to make the colors bubble to the top.

Busy little scientists!

The kids all played hard and even went outside to swing and play in the fort, it was pretty awesome seeing that all 4 of them fit in Ronin's fort and they loved it!

About an hour after all his little guests left, he could be found passed out on the floor with his new "Cuddle-Uppet"...

We were all so exhausted that we decided to ask for Monday off as well... so we bought and watched E.T., ate left over pizza and just relaxed on Monday :)

Quinn likes to find Ronin and sit in his lap :)

Other than all of THAT excitment we haven't had time for much else... We worked a little more on the front yard- the flowerbed by the front door.  And Quinn LOVES going outside and screams bloody murder if he points and says "OUT" and we don't let him go outside.  Unfortunately when he does go outside he winds up falling, tripping, banging his head and lip on something...  Still working on that balance when facing uneven surfaces I guess!  He tries to help mommy by bringing the little kid rake to me and trying to rake up bark or leaves.  :)

Ronin got a bean-bag chair from us and Quinn wants one so badly now, it's too cute how he climbs onto the chair and tries to push his big brother off.  haha

Hope you enjoyed the pictures :)  I have a whole year before I need to plan and create that mess again ;)

Lots of love,
C
